After an enforced week off due to family commitments, I was looking to get back on track in a big way this week. But, yet again, I learned another big lesson instead.
Trading went brilliantly, though it only extended to ten races as I was looking after my son and then dealing with a rather tetchy wife. But that's enough of my life to bore you with!
10 out of 10 in the trading on $50 stakes, and almost hit my first $10 race, the $9.04 (net) race, had looked to be a $11 closer at one point, until I let it run too far before greening up. A few minor wins and two more above $5 helped me win $29.99 in total, before I went dickhead again.
On the back of the Typhoon Tracy situation, I decided that, as I was now up from $544 to $574, that I would back Denman for $70 at $1.74 in the Aus Oaks. Well, it seemed such a sure thing. This was an animal unlike any other racing in Australia, they said. The next race was overloaded with stars like Zipping, Shocking and Zagreb, because nobody wanted their horse to take him on, they said.
But what a load of shite that turned out to be. The superstar Denman trailed in a miserable 4th out of 6, so I ended up $40 down for the day, but one hell of a lot wiser. Never again will I use my Betfair account for a punt. It worked once, but even star horses are prone to the most pathetic tendancies, and it wont work in the long run, so from now on, this account is all about trading.
